Shelf Reflections: Goodbye Slump, Hello Good Music!

Shelf Reflections Shelf Reflections is a fun post where I  let all of you in on what I do when I’m”blogging,” the various happenings around the blog, where ever my internet ADD takes me or what I’m excited about. Basically a smorgasbord of amazingtasticness. Or weirdness. Take your pick! 😀

The Confessional

It’s been SO long since I did a Shelf Reflections post I can’t even remember the last time I did one! It seems like I’m finally starting to get out of my reading slump and also my blogging slump, slowly but surely. I just started reading The Book Thief and so far loving it! I also finished reading Evidence of Things Not Seen, which was amazingtastic! I am looking forward to writing my review on that one! So yeah, let’s get to the fun  -and don’t forget about our read-a-thon coming up in October! Want to be a host? Email me! april at myshelfconfessions dot com

Sign up for the Wonderfully Wicked Read-a-Thon October 17-27 (and nope, you don’t have to participate that full time span, you do what’s good for you!) Challenges will run the entire week long so that it gives everyone as much chance to participate as well on their own schedule AND nearly (if not all) challenges will be open to internationals, which has always been very important to us – we love our internationals and want this to be fun for EVERYONE!

[box]If you’re up for hosting a challenge – there’s still time to get in on it as long as you email me ASAP – myshelfconfessions at gmail dot com 🙂 [/box]

Devious Distractions

Lately I’ve been listening to Birdy, and I love this song, especially the message in the lyrics:

Birdy – Shine

A lot of Birdy’s songs are more mellow but I love how this one kicks it up a notch and has a great beat:

Birdy – Light Me Up (US Version)

I’v’e been really stuck on Straight No Chaser lately, especially their newest album, I also love Jason Mraz’s original version of this too and have been listening to it all month!

Straight No Chaser w/ Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up

Have a great week and what are you listening to this week? I need new-to-me music like I need water – so bring it on! 😀

Shelf Reflections: Vacation & Stuff!

The Confessional

Hey everyone! It’s been a little weird around MSC lately it feels like – first Kat went on vacay and then I did – and now I’m back and I haven’t quite gotten back into the swing of things yet, but I’m getting there! Promise!

We’ve got a fun new feature that will be debuting probably next week Tuesday! So drop by for that and perhaps participate if you feel so inclined, *wink, wink* *nudge, nudge.*

We’ve been reading the responses to the survey we have going on (which I forgot to make a button for the sidebar before I left *facepalm* so if you haven’t answered it yet – please do! The more responses we get the better idea we will have, otherwise the results will only be a very tiny, tiny fraction of our viewers and we want your voice to get heard! If you would like to fill out the survey, go to: The Survey Post

My vacay was awesome! Got to spend a week with a close friend and also see the Katy Perry concert, which was a blast!

Devious Distractions

Here are a couple videos from our concert (I can’t take credit for taking them!) [This video is when she first came out at the beginning of her show, a lot of screaming so set your volume down a tad 😀 ]

Katy Perry –  Roar

This is another video clip of the concert, one of the funnest, where Katy is on a swing with balloons flying through the stadium:

Katy Perry – Happy Birthday

Shelf Reflections: Survey Coming, Music Oldies & New Favs

Shelf Reflections Shelf Reflections is a fun post where I  let all of you in on what I do when I’m”blogging,” the various happenings around the blog, where ever my internet ADD takes me or what I’m excited about. Basically a smorgasbord of amazingtasticness. Or weirdness. Take your pick! 😀

The Confessional

I’m trying to figure out what to put here in “The Confessional” and the truth is a confession – I’ve been feeling quite burnt out of late. You’ve probably notice (if you come to MSC everyday) that there’s been a few days this month where there isn’t a new post posted. Which is such a rarity! I don’t like skipping days, but sometimes you just need that break – before a bigger break comes. I’ve seen it happen with so many of my former blogging friends and I don’t want it to happen to me or MSC. I love this blog so much and I’m so happy that Kat’s here and we plan to make this blog the awesomest it can possibly be. I need to remember “quality over quantity” because I think THAT is what really matters.

I’m also trying to put my game face on and make sure that our new features start becoming more regular and not just every once in awhile because i think all of you really liked them  – and I know they’re fun for us too!

That being said, Kat and I are putting together a survey – I can’t remember a survey ever being done at MSC – that will help us get to know our audience better and what you guys like/love/hate and what you want to see more or less of on MSC, etc. We want to know your opinion and have your input! So keep an eye out for that. 🙂

AND there’s still plenty of time to sign up for the Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon July 14-24th (and nope, you don’t have to participate that full time span, you do what’s good for you!) Challenges will run the entire week long so that it gives everyone as much chance to participate as well on their own schedule AND nearly (if not all) challenges will be open to internationals, which has always been very important to us – we love our internationals and want this to be fun for EVERYONE!

Devious Distractions

I’ve been chilling out to this song – it’s a 90’s hit that Boyz II Men made really popular and I just LOVE this cover version!

Jason Mraz – It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday

I’m going to the Katy Perry concert that’s coming to town in August, and while I’m not an UBER huge fan of her I do like a good number of her songs, this is a new discovery that I’ve taken a liking too:

Katy Perry – Pearl

I stumbled on this a couple days ago and it’s such an oldie but a goodie, brings me back to my childhood!:

Hanson – I Will Come To You

Have a great week and what are you listening to this week? I need new-to-me music like I need water – so bring it on! 😀

Shelf Reflections: All Orphan Black #CloneClub ALL THE TIME

Shelf Reflections Shelf Reflections is a fun post where I  let all of you in on what I do when I’m”blogging,” the various happenings around the blog, where ever my internet ADD takes me or what I’m excited about. Basically a smorgasbord of amazingtasticness. Or weirdness. Take your pick! 😀

The Confessional

OK so I was trying to think of what I’ve been perusing around on the interwebs this week and I realized – it’s been Orphan Black and the #CloneClub stuff ALL WEEK. Yes, I have been listening to music too, but it’s been mostly Orphan Black. So this week’s Shelf Reflections is gonna be formatted a little bit different – and instead of being a random topic, it’s going to display for my ever-growing love for Orphan Black and a PLEA FOR YOU  TO WATCH THE MOST AMAZING SHOW ON TV!

I even got Kat into it! And my friend Kevin – and my dad too, and they’re all hooked like lil crack addicts waiting for their next fix.. mwuhahahahahaha! And I am too! It’s painful waiting until SATURDAY to get my next fix!

Devious Distractions

Here are some of my favorite memes from the show – and I know a lot of you won’t get the “in-jokes” if you’re not already a fan, but they’ll still pique your interest, mwuahah

Here is the Orphan Black trailer for Season 1 to give you your first hit, I mean taste.. 😉

Now let me explain a little something – this isn’t CGI or fancy techno computer imagery – I mean they definitely use technology when the clones interact with each other – but it’s ALL Tatiana Maslany playing ALL the clones! She is a phenomenal actor – and the other actors in the show are just as addicting to watch the way they interact with each other.

You never know WHAT is going to happen next! It’s science, it’s comedy, it’s drama, suspense, sometimes even horror –  it has it ALL and does it WELL!

All of these memes have come out of a Facebook Group for us #CloneClubbers 😀

Orphan Black Gracie lips sealed

Cosima is the Clone with the biological sciences background, exploring the clone’s DNA etc She’s SO multifaceted – all the clones are and she’s uber cool!

Cosima Orphan Black

Helena is a creepy clone, she’s got a real story behind her – one I won’t spoil for you, but she knows how to handle herself, and does it well. So does Sarah, the clone that sort of ties the show all together (with her foster brother Felix who is HILARIOUS) but Helena is funny too, she brings horror and hilarity in equal mixture. Her accent makes her unique, she talks very simply and she has a real thing for JELLO.

Orphan Black Helena

I hope I’ve piqued your interest! I LOVE THIS SHOW and you will too!

Have a great week and what are you listening to this week? I need new-to-me music like I need water – so bring it on! 😀

The Eurovision Skype Party we had was a blast! We were all happy with who won, it was well deserved and I’m most of all glad for the statement people made against Russia with their votes. For those of who you don’t know what Eurovision is or didn’t watch it – I’ll share some of our favorite performances in this Shelf Reflections post. 😀

Devious Distractions

This was my and my friend Kevin’s favorite of the finals, I’m hoping their music makes it to the US Spotify soon!

Softengine (performing for Finland) –  Something Better

This song sounds ridiculous when you listen to it while you watch the video.. but Bex discovered a secret! If you listen to it and don’t watch, it’s actually a pretty catchy song that definitely makes you want to dance!

Twin Twin ( performing for France) – Moustache

This song definitely grows on you the more you listen to it!

Marie Yaremchuk (performing for Ukraine) – Tick Tock

This is the song that won Eurovision this year!

Conchita Wurst (performing for Austria) – Rise Like a Phoenix

Have a great week and what are you listening to this week? I need new-to-me music like I need water – so bring it on! 😀

Once again this month is flying by! It’s going to be July before you know it – which means you should sign up for our Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon now! [Wasn’t that smooth of me, haha!] I’m so excited because tomorrow – well today for you, we’ll be watching the Eurovision finals! And of course my new fav show Orphan Black airs a new episode tonight too. So twofer! Woot! My favs were Malta, Ukraine, and Finland! Ukraine was awesome with that dude in the hampster wheel in the background! Bex and I were referring him as “hampy in a wheel.” Which is ironic that it showed up at Eurovision because I was just telling Bex the other day she needed a guy in a hamster wheel to ruuuuun, ruuuun, ruuuun, for her. LOL And France is hilarious. BUT their song is really catchy – seriously, close your eyes and listen to it and you can’t help but find yourself dancing a little (or maybe a lot!)

Devious Distractions

This is a great Buzzfeed post about tips and tricks for your browser! I definitely learned some new things! Some are just fun or funny, but there are some handy ones too!

18 Cook Internet Tricks You Didn’t Know Existed

I’ve been listening to these nonstop all week! And their new album just dropped (at least in the States!)

MKTO  – Classic

This is another song I’ve been in love with for over a week and listening to on repeat!

JTR – Ride

Are you discovering a theme here? These are all feel-good songs with a good beat! Perfect to get you pumped for Spring and Summer!

A Great Big World – Rockstar

Geez, it’s May already?! This week has gone crazy fast. I’ve been trying to do good with the Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon but lately I’ve either been too sleep to read.. or I’ve been in the mood to watch something. I just started watching Hannibal last night and I binge watched 3 episodes – I really like it so far! So creepy and I like the spin that the show has done with the character Will having aspergers syndrome. I haven’t read the books – that’s on my t0-do list this year though!

It’s been fun having Kat around this month! I’m excited for the things we have planned – and I’m super stoked for another Ask a Blogger post we have in the works, I think you’ll all be excited for the blog we asked to participate and I’m looking forward to what they put together for us!

Devious Distractions

I stumbled on these videos.. not even sure where but I just want to scream “take my money!” I want to see them in concert! I love when people take traditional classical instruments and make nontraditional style music with them! These guys just leave my jaw gaping in awe at their talent and passion.. well you’ll see!

2CELLOS – Thunderstruck [cover]

2CELLOS – Smooth Criminal [cover]

2CELLOS – Smells Like Teen Spirit

I’ve been listening to a lot of random music on various Spotify playlists but here are some new favs, it’s just so chill:

Electric Guest  – Awake

And this is another new fav, it’s just so happy and feel-good! Perfect for skipping in the Spring!

Yuna – Rescue

Have a great week and what are you listening to this week? I need new-to-me music like I need water – so bring it on! 😀

It seems like this month has been FANTASTIC for movie news! First Goonies is getting a sequel and now I hear Farscape (a tv series for those of you who haven’t heard of it that ran from ’99-’03 on the SyFy channel) is getting it’s own movie – on the big screen this time! It’s had (I think) two made-for-tv movies and I swear I’m totally obsessed with this show despite not being a HUGE SciFi fan.. the older the get the more I think my dad’s influences are rubbing off on me. 😀

Devious Distractions

This video about octopuses cracked me up so hard.. his voice and the facts he shares.. you just cant stop listening.. OR laughing!

This cracked me up so badly.. it does have foul language for so those of you out there who don’t like that.. but it’s seriously hilarious! LOL

I haven’t been listening to a ton of music but I have discovered this band called Grieves that I like! These are two of my favorite songs of theirs:

Grieves – Whoa is Me (this makes me laugh)

And my second fav song of Grieves (there is some language, just FYI):

Grieves – Sunny Side of Hell

Have a great week and what are you listening to this week? I need new-to-me music like I need water – so bring it on! 😀

I’m having a lot of fun rolling out the new features – so far I’ve revealed the Ask a Blogger feature – the debut post with Kimberly from The Caffeinated Book Reviewer sharing her secrets on how she manages to do it all! I’ve also revealed the WTF Wednesday feature. Both features have been tons of fun so far – and I hope you’re all loving them as much as I am! I’m excited to roll out a couple more in the days to come – of course to reveal the exciting news for MSC which is coming very soon!!

Devious Distractions

Do you agree these are some of the best books ever? For me it’s hard to quantify that – especially EVERYONE’s list is subjective, so I don’t think there CAN be ONE universal list for the entire world, there just can’t. I was glad to see that there were some books on the list that I hadn’t heard of before – and that at least one of my favs made it on the list (The Secret History by Donna Tartt) and that it wasn’t ALL just classics.

Supposedly the Best Books Ever

I think this is probably the coolest sandbox idea I’ve EVER seen!

Coolest Interactive Sandbox EVER

And because I’m wishing Spring is finally here for good and I’ve been in a Springtastic music mood – yes, I’ve posted some of these before, but they’re great songs to put you in a good mood!

Almost every song on MIKA’s most recent album is a pick-me-up-dance-in-your-underwear song, this is one of my favs:

MIKA – Stardust

And most of you know how much I love A Fine Frenzy and this is one of her their most upbeat songs that gets me happy EVERY TIME:

A Fine Frenzy – Now is the Start

And of course, one of the happiest upbeat bands of all time – Imagine Dragons!

Imagine Dragons  – It’s Time

Well, there is a HUGE surprise coming up for all of you really soon! I cannot WAIT to announce it, I’m so completely excited about it all I can hardly contain myself! I’ll be announcing it fairly soon I’m sure so all of you won’t be kept in suspense much longer. 😉

Also, a couple of the new features that I’m stoked about will be rolling out next week – so make sure to keep an eye out for those! 😀

Devious Distractions

Last week I learned about the Harry Potter being made into a stage play, this week I learn that Goonies is going to be having a sequel made – with the original director on board and he hopes to incorporate the original cast to some extent – can I say “GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!” Loud enough?! I don’t think so. Also, I wanna see you do the Truffle Shuffle, so hop to it. You know this is an occasion that deserves such things.

Goonies Sequel in the Works

And here is some lovely p♥rn for the eyes. And no it’s not real p♥rn, what kind of site do you think I’m running here? 😀

Gifs You Can’t Take Your Eyes Off Of  – How Things Are Made

I’ve been listening to this a lot – and hoping that Ingrid Michaelson’s new album will show up on Spotify already, the video is a bit different, but I liked it and the song is so freaking catchy, I love Ingrid Michaelson:

Ingrid Michaelson – Girls Chase Boys

I like several songs by Joshua Radin, some seem to be on the more melancholy side so I was excited to stumble onto this one that’s very feel-good and cheerful and yet mellow too:

Joshua Radin – Beautiful Day

This is one of my fav songs of all time – a great song from the 90’s from a great singer and songwriter – this is an awesome video, well worth the watch to see her play it live:

Sarah McLachlan – Building a Mystery

I am a newly HUGE Orphan Black fan and it was SO awesome the scene where this song comes into play – and seriously, watch the show on Amazon!! It’s AMAZINGTASTIC! I’m dying for the next season to start on BBC America on April 19th! AHH –

Meredith Brooks – Bitch

Have a great week and what are you listening to this week? I need new-to-me music like I need water – so bring it on! 😀
